A simple daily planning routine you can keep

Close out finished work, choose a realistic Today list, and leave the rest where you can find it.

Published

Daily planning does not need a new page, a motivational prompt, or a careful rewrite of your entire backlog. It needs a repeatable moment when you make the list accurate and choose what deserves attention next.

Close the previous day first

Scan the tasks you pulled into Today and update what actually happened:

  • Mark completed work done.
  • Change handed-off work to waiting.
  • Mark abandoned work irrelevant when it no longer matters.
  • Return untouched work to its category if it is not an immediate priority.

This is bookkeeping, not a performance review. The point is to begin from the real state of the work.

Check the calendar before choosing Today

Meetings, appointments, and protected work blocks set the limits of the day. Read them before pulling a full load of tasks into Today. The guide to using a to-do list with a calendar explains the division.

Pull priorities from the full list

Look through your categories and choose work with a real consequence, a clear next action, or the power to unblock something else. Leave ordinary backlog items where they are. They remain available without crowding the day's working list.

Sort the Inbox after capture

Tasks added during the day can land in Inbox without interrupting the work already in front of you. During planning, move each one to a category, bring it into Today, or mark it irrelevant. An Inbox is useful because sorting can wait, not because sorting never happens.

Let rollover handle the filing

World's Best To-Do List automatically archives completed tasks at the rollover time set in your account. Waiting, irrelevant, and open tasks stay on the active list. History keeps the completed record without leaving finished lines in your way.

You can plan at night or in the morning. Pick the point you can repeat, update the statuses, and choose Today. Then stop planning and start the first task.
