You can use ChatGPT to manage your to-do list by connecting it to World's Best To-Do List (WBTDL) through MCP. Once connected, ChatGPT can read your active tasks, add new ones, and mark work done or waiting. The changes are saved in WBTDL, where you can check them outside the conversation.
A list written in a chat is easy to leave in that chat. Connecting your task app gives those next steps somewhere to go.
Connect ChatGPT to your list
You'll need a WBTDL account and a ChatGPT account or workspace that allows custom MCP plugins. On ChatGPT web, follow the current OpenAI custom MCP instructions:
- Open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it World's Best To-Do List. Enter
https://worldsbesttodolist.com/api/mcpas the Server URL and use OAuth authentication. - Create the plugin, install it, and complete sign-in to your WBTDL account.
- In a conversation, type @ and select the installed plugin.
Start with a read: “Show my open WBTDL tasks, with their page and category. Don't change anything.” Check that you recognize the list before asking for updates. If custom plugins aren't available, check your workspace's permissions and OpenAI's current instructions.
Make the request specific enough to save
“Help me get organized” can produce a perfectly pleasant conversation. For a useful task, give ChatGPT the action and a destination:
Find my Home category. Add “Call the plumber about the kitchen tap” there. If more than one category matches, ask me which one. Show me the saved task afterward.
Use the category names already on your list. When you're deciding what to do, ask ChatGPT to suggest changes first, then tell it which ones to save. Our guide to choosing daily priorities with AI gives you a prompt for that review.
Can ChatGPT mark tasks complete?
Yes. Once you've made the call, ask it to find the saved task and mark it done. If you're waiting for a quote, it can set the task to waiting instead. Marking a task done changes its status; it doesn't make the call or send the email for you.
If a request appears to fail, have ChatGPT read the list again before repeating an add. That helps you spot a task that was saved even though the response didn't arrive.
What can it see?
The connection can read active tasks your account can access, including shared pages, with up to 500 tasks returned per call. It doesn't retrieve archived History. Read the full list of assistant capabilities and limits before using it with shared work. You can also find the connection address on our MCP setup page.
